Legacy

P15057C1T164#yIS1 Born from horror and violence across generations, an Ogre is the product of an Orc raping someone. They could be Elfin, Imperial, Dwarfin, or even a half-blood. The nature of the ogre erases all other traits.

This makes Ogres among the least popular people on the planet in human societies. As they are used as fodder, food and fettered slaves by Goblins and Imps, they are not popular outside of Human societies, either.

Ogres are big, dense, and strongly muscled. They have a height advantage that has no apparent source since Goblins are shorter than most humans. As a result, Ogres are generally taller than those around them.

Ogres have goblin blood, and that tinges all their coloration a slightly green color, from hair to skin to eyes.

They tend to not meet the expectations for what a typical person should look like, no matter how one tries to slice it, and there is no such thing as a pretty or handsome Ogre. Look at the example shown for evidence. Despite this, Ogres have been seen and engaged in nearly every facet of society, save Nobility (though some say that the ruler s of Qivira have ogres in the family).

Most spend their time on the streets or in the wild and are denied opportunities that others may have routinely. Ogres can come from anywhere except Hyboria and can also have escaped the warrens of the Imps or the camps of the Goblins – perhaps even the slave pens of the Thyrs.

Ogres are frequently said to be less intelligent but have the same degrees of capacity for that as others. Ogres do have a significant size difference over many, though there are ogres who are lanky and those who are stocky, they always stand tall.

Ogres comes from eggs, usually deposited when they are about a hand in diameter. The egg is surrounded by a caul that attaches itself to the host, and often pulls the attached organs out with it when it ejects. This is not always the case, but often enough that most are aware they have dropped an egg and are likely to die.

The egg will be a dark grey color, and about eight inches long. The egg sheds the caul about three days after deposit and will continue to grow as the infant within does. When it reaches a height of 24 inches or so, it will begin to harden in preparation for hatching.

The process, from implantation to hatching, takes about two months; the laying happens around week three. Ogres hatch or they do not, and this early display of strength is remarkable. The infant then grows fast. This growth has a price in the form of a voracious appetite that gives them little time for sleeping or resting and keeps them incredibly active.

This is often a problem in communities after a raid, as the eggs may not be destroyed when laid and instead simply cast out into refuse heaps, where the hatchlings then become roaming feral children. They are often found in raided villages, surviving on whatever scarps they can.

By the time they are mature enough to take on an apprenticeship if they can find one, and like many other Wyrlde children will find themselves drawn to learning how to do things, even going so far as to teach themselves.

The dark side to this early growth and maturation is that the lives of Ogres do not have much flexibility in the length of it. Indeed, because of their scarcity and the tales of killing children found in ruined villages and hamlets, Ogres are often thought to have shorter than normal lives, and the speed with which they grow in size has led many to think they mature physically at a faster rate.

Ogres are prized as chattel, cattle, and considered a failure by Goblins, are often sought after by Thyrs, and are deeply disliked by Imps save for their usefulness in causing chaos by manipulating them. Ogres are scary to most, their size, their coloring, their very heritage making the seek to worry about them, or avoid them, or push them away.

Ogres are 1% of the population at most, and yet despite that, they have earned a reputation as being brutal – even the most meek and scholarly sorts are said to have it in them – and they are aware of their place in society so they can intimidate others around them easily. Finally, Ogres are hard to kill. Many times, an Ogre has seem to be down, even as a child, and gotten back up after a few moments.

Ogres have a challenging time finding someone to be with as friends or more. This tends to make them more loyal and more protective of those they do become close to. They expect this loyalty to be returned, though, through the keeping of their personal things personal, lacking trust in outsiders. It is rumored that Ogres are sterile, but no ogre has ever answered the question, and many have had unpleasant reactions to be asked about it.

It is rumored that Ogres are sterile, but no ogre has ever answered the question, and many have had unpleasant reactions to be asked about it.

Perspective

Ogres are survivors, most having risen out of the slums and wild camps to achieve something, or perhaps taken in by someone who sees them as deserving kindness. They are not the sort to trust, and this is made somewhat worse by their often-imposing size and penchant for being big.

Ogres have a challenging time finding someone to be with as friends or more. This tends to make them more loyal and more protective of those they do become close to. They expect this loyalty to be returned, though, through the keeping of their personal things personal, lacking trust in outsiders.

Stigmas

Ogres are descended from violence and goblins and orcs. People can be cruel to ogres, but by and large it is more a sense of “watch that one”, a “just in case” because “you know how their kind can be”.

Appearance

Ogres are large, green, and very muscular. How it is that something so large came from a bunch of brutish people who are so short remains a mystery, but the Powers work in mysterious ways, and Ogres are a blessing more often than they are a curse.

Ogres are among the largest of the Peoples, with square eyes, broad oval faces, strong jaws, well-proportioned noses, and any kind of hair type – almost always inherited from their non goblin or orc side, since neither goblins nor orcs have anything but stringy, sparse hair. Ogre hair is thick and strong, like they are, and befits them. Some have said that a beautiful ogre is as sight to behold. I find the green somewhat off-putting.

Qualities

The questions on everyone’s mind are two: How did such a small people make something that big, and how did they survive. Ogres are always the grandchildren of a Goblin raid and have a sense of pathos as a result of that.

Among the largest of the people, Ogres are tougher than most, bigger than most, and unnerving almost to the same degree as the Serpent Therian are.
